Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream on October 17, 2024

On October 17, 2024, Ontario issued targeted notifications of interest to candidates under the Express Entry Skilled Trades stream. These candidates, who had Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores between 405 and 435, have work experience in specific skilled trades and may now qualify to apply for permanent residency in Ontario.

This stream is designed to address the province’s demand for skilled trades professionals in a variety of sectors. Candidates who received a notification must have at least six months of work experience in one of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes listed below, and this experience must be identified as the primary NOC in their Express Entry profile.

List of Eligible NOC Codes:

  • Contractors and Supervisors: Machining, electrical trades, pipefitting, carpentry, heavy equipment, and more.
  • Tradespeople: Machinists, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, steamfitters, HVAC mechanics, and others.
  • Specialized Mechanics: Automotive technicians, aircraft inspectors, motorcycle mechanics, and more.
  • Heavy Equipment Operators: Crane operators, drillers, and blasters.
  • Supervisors in Landscaping, Grounds Maintenance, and Horticulture.

The full list of eligible NOCs includes trades such as electricians, plumbers, boilermakers, carpenters, HVAC mechanics, and crane operators, among many others.

Next Steps for Candidates:

Candidates who have received a notification of interest are encouraged to:

  1. Review the Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades stream to ensure they meet the requirements.
  2. Check the document checklist to prepare the necessary paperwork for the application.
  3. Log into the OINP e-Filing Portal to submit an application.

Important Notes:

  • Receiving a notification of interest does not guarantee that the candidate meets all the eligibility criteria for the stream, nor does it guarantee approval of the application.
  • Candidates are not required to contact the program if they receive a notification of interest.

Ontario continues to seek skilled trades professionals to meet the demands of its growing economy, and this targeted draw is part of its strategy to attract top talent through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).
