A crucial element of Ontario’s economic immigration program, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), is its ability to connect with potential immigrants and provide them with an opportunity to make Ontario their new home. The OINP works with the Government of Canada through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to ensure that the immigration process is smooth and efficient.
On June 20, 2023, the OINP reached out to potential candidates who had expressed their interest in the Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills stream. This initiative aims to attract foreign workers with specific skills that are in high demand in the province’s labor market. Invitations to apply were issued to those who had scored 26 and above in the OINP’s ranking system.
The process to apply under this stream begins by reviewing the requirements specified on the Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills stream page. Applicants need to log into the OINP e-Filing Portal and navigate to their newly created file with the prefix ‘JOID.’ This new application file number is distinct from the Expression of Interest (EOI) file number, which will be grayed out. If you have received an invitation to apply, there is no need to contact the program.
The OINP is also keen on attracting foreign workers through the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker stream. On June 20, 2023, targeted invitations were issued to potential candidates in the Expression of Interest system pool who may qualify for this stream. These candidates needed to have a score of 36 and above, and they had to have a job offer in one of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes specified by the OINP.
The NOCs cover a wide range of occupations, including, but not limited to, drafting technologists and technicians, user support technicians, industrial engineering technologists, and mechanical engineering technicians. The list is extensive, pointing to Ontario’s diverse labor market needs and the province’s commitment to fill these gaps through targeted immigration.
These two streams underline the province’s strategic approach to immigration. By focusing on specific sectors and job roles that are currently in-demand, Ontario is ensuring that the province continues to be competitive and that its economy thrives.
Both these streams, the Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills stream and the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker stream, form part of the nine different streams that potential immigrants can apply for under the OINP. Each stream has its own set of requirements and is designed to address specific needs in the province’s labor market.
Through the OINP, Ontario continues to welcome skilled workers, international students, and others who have the right skills, experience, and education. These individuals not only enrich the province’s cultural fabric, but they also make significant contributions to Ontario’s economy. By choosing Ontario as their new home, these individuals are also choosing a province that values their skills and contributions, and offers a high standard of living, world-class education, and healthcare facilities.
Ontario’s targeted approach to immigration ensures that the province can meet its labor market needs and continue on its path of economic growth. It is a testament to the positive role that immigration plays in Ontario’s future, and how well the OINP is designed to manage this crucial aspect of the province’s growth strategy.
The journey to becoming a permanent resident in Canada, and particularly in Ontario, is not an easy one. However, programs like the OINP, with its clear requirements and targeted approach, make the process a bit easier for those with the right skills and the desire to contribute to Ontario’s future.
