About working in the Yukon

The Yukon is a territory in Canada and is governed by the Government of Canada’s immigration policies. To immigrate to the Yukon, you can apply through various federal programs such as the Express Entry system, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class. You can also apply through the Yukon Nominee Program, which is a program that allows the territorial government to nominate individuals for permanent residency based on specific criteria.

The Yukon Nominee Program

The Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) is a program that allows the territorial government of Yukon to nominate individuals for permanent residency in Canada. The program is designed to attract and retain skilled workers, entrepreneurs, and graduates to the territory to help meet the workforce needs and economic development goals of the region. The program has several categories under which individuals can apply, including Skilled Worker, Critical Impact Worker, Entrepreneur, and International Graduate.

To be eligible for the program, you must have a job offer from a Yukon employer and meet certain education, work experience, and language requirements. You will also need to demonstrate that you intend to settle in the Yukon permanently.

The process for applying to the YNP includes first getting a job offer from a Yukon employer, then the employer will need to apply to the YNP for a nomination certificate on your behalf. Once the certificate is issued, you will then need to apply for permanent residency through the Government of Canada.

The Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) has several streams under which individuals can apply, including:

Yukon Nominee Program streams

  1. Skilled Worker: This stream is for individuals with a job offer from a Yukon employer in a skilled occupation. Eligible applicants must have the appropriate education, work experience, and language abilities for the job, and must be able to demonstrate that they intend to settle in the Yukon permanently.
  2. Critical Impact Worker: This stream is for individuals with a job offer from a Yukon employer in an occupation that is in high demand and has a critical impact on the territory’s economy. The criteria for this stream are similar to the Skilled Worker stream.
  3. Entrepreneur: This stream is for individuals who want to start or purchase a business in the Yukon. Eligible applicants must have a business plan and demonstrate that their business will have a positive economic impact on the territory.
  4. International Graduate: This stream is for recent graduates of eligible Canadian post-secondary institutions who have a job offer from a Yukon employer. Eligible applicants must have completed a program of at least two years in length, and must intend to settle in the territory permanently.
  5. Express Entry: This stream is for individuals who have a profile in the federal government’s Express Entry system and meet the criteria of the Skilled Worker or Critical Impact Worker streams.

It is important to note that the YNP is a very competitive program and the number of nominations is limited each year. It is recommended that you consult the Government of Yukon’s immigration website for the most up-to-date information and requirements for the program.
