April 30, 2025 – Ottawa, ON — In response to the unjustified U.S. tariffs imposed on Canadian goods, Global Affairs Canada has launched a set of new resources through the Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) to help Canadian exporters protect their business and navigate the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).
These initiatives aim to ensure Canadian businesses benefit from the tariff-free trade access they are entitled to under CUSMA and are fully equipped to meet compliance and customs requirements.
Why This Matters
- On March 4, 2025, the United States imposed 25% tariffs on Canadian goods and 10% tariffs on energy products
- However, as of March 7, 2025, goods that meet CUSMA compliance standards are exempt from these tariffs
- Many small and medium-sized exporters may not be fully aware of how to certify their goods or comply with U.S. customs regulations — and that’s where the TCS steps in
