Financial Assistance for Gazans Arriving in Canada

Canada has taken significant steps to support Palestinians fleeing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. As part of its commitment to humanitarian aid and refugee resettlement, the Government of Canada has introduced financial assistance for Gazans arriving in the country. This initiative aims to help newcomers settle into their new communities by providing immediate financial relief for essential needs such as housing, food, and clothing.

On January 16, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced a one-time financial assistance program for Gazans who have recently arrived in Canada. This measure builds on Canada’s existing refugee support framework and ensures that those affected by the conflict receive immediate settlement support.

Who is Eligible for Financial Assistance?

To qualify for the financial assistance program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a Palestinian national who has arrived in Canada under the Temporary Resident Pathway for Palestinian Extended Family in Gaza.
  • Must have arrived in Canada on or before March 31, 2025.
  • Must have a valid Canadian bank account for direct deposit payments.
  • Must submit an application for financial assistance upon arrival in Canada.

Those who arrive after March 31, 2025, may still receive support, but additional funding approval from the Canadian Parliament will be required.

Payment Details

Under this initiative, eligible Gazans will receive:

  • $3,000 per adult (18 years and older).
  • $1,500 per child (17 years and younger).
  • Payments will be made through direct deposit—a Canadian bank account is required.
  • Financial assistance will be distributed in stages, beginning with those who have already arrived in Canada.
