Alberta has just introduced a new Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) system for the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) worker streams. Starting from September 30, 2024, candidates interested in applying for one of AAIP’s worker streams will need to submit a Worker EOI through the AAIP portal.
This is a crucial opportunity for skilled workers looking to make Alberta their home, and the new system aims to streamline the process of selecting candidates who match the province’s labor market needs.
Key Highlights of the New Worker EOI System:
1. How It Works
- No Submission Fee: There is no fee to submit a Worker EOI, making it accessible for all interested candidates.
- Online Submission: Candidates will fill out a self-declared online Worker EOI form in the AAIP portal, providing information about themselves.
- Scoring & Ranking: Each Worker EOI will be scored and ranked using the Worker EOI points grid, which evaluates various factors such as skills, work experience, and qualifications.
2. Selection Process
- Ongoing Draws: The AAIP will conduct ongoing draws from the Worker Stream pool, selecting candidates based on their EOI score rankings, labor market needs, available AAIP nominations, and application levels.
- Invitation to Apply: Candidates who are selected will receive an invitation to apply via email. The first draws from the Worker Stream pool are expected to begin in mid or late October 2024, so there’s no need to rush your submission.
3. Preparing to Submit Your Worker EOI
- Confirm Eligibility: Check the eligibility requirements for one or more AAIP worker streams to ensure you qualify.
- Review the Points Grid: Familiarize yourself with the Worker EOI points grid to understand how your information will be evaluated and how points are awarded.
- Existing Applications or EOIs: You can only have one Worker EOI at a time. If you have an existing Worker EOI, Entrepreneur EOI, or a draft/active AAIP application, you must withdraw them before submitting a new Worker EOI.
- Create Your Alberta.ca Account: Ensure you have a valid, basic Alberta.ca Account to access the AAIP portal. You can use an existing basic or verified account.
Important Reminders:
- The Worker EOI system will go live on September 30, 2024, at 10 am.
- No draws will occur until mid or late October 2024, giving candidates time to prepare and submit accurate information.
This new system offers a streamlined path for workers interested in making Alberta their new home, aligning candidates with the province’s current labor market needs and priorities. Take this opportunity to prepare and submit your EOI for a chance to become a part of Alberta’s growing workforce.
