Starting April 1, 2025, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) will introduce an increased application fee of $1,500 for all worker immigration streams. This revised fee is aimed at aligning the costs of service delivery with the fees collected, thereby supporting continued high-quality immigration services in Alberta.
Why the Fee Adjustment?
The Alberta government noted that the adjustment in fees was necessary to accurately reflect the true operational costs associated with the AAIP, including processing applications, conducting assessments, providing support services, and ensuring compliance with immigration regulations. This decision helps maintain service standards and ensures the long-term sustainability and effectiveness of Alberta’s immigration programs.
Streams Affected by the Fee Change:
This new fee of $1,500 applies specifically to the following AAIP worker streams:
- Alberta Opportunity Stream
- Alberta Express Entry Stream
- Accelerated Tech Pathway
- Rural Renewal Stream
Applicants who intend to apply under these worker streams after the effective date must include this updated fee in their submission.
No Change to Other AAIP Fees:
All other AAIP-related service fees, including those for entrepreneur streams (Graduate Entrepreneur, Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur, and Farm Streams), remain unchanged at this time. Applicants currently processing or submitting applications in non-worker streams will continue to pay existing rates.
How Applicants Can Prepare:
Prospective applicants should consider the following recommendations to smoothly adapt to the fee changes:
- Plan application submissions accordingly to accommodate the new fee structure.
- Check AAIP’s official website for comprehensive guidelines and instructions related to fee payments.
- Factor the revised fee into overall immigration budgeting and preparation.
What Applicants Should Expect:
AAIP anticipates this fee adjustment will:
- Improve overall service delivery and operational efficiency.
- Allow sustained investment in streamlining processing times.
- Enhance applicant experience through better resources and support.
Staying Informed:
AAIP encourages applicants to regularly visit the official Alberta immigration website and remain in contact with immigration consultants or advisors to receive the latest updates and guidance on AAIP program changes.
