Canada’s FIFA World Cup 2026 Visa Scam Alert Goes Viral: IRCC Warns Fans of Fraudulent Immigration Promises

As excitement builds for the FIFA World Cup 2026, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued a high-profile warning about a surge in immigration scams targeting football fans—especially those from India, Pakistan, and other visa-required countries. Misleading social media videos are falsely promising work opportunities and “special visas” for World Cup visitors, prompting IRCC to post a red-card-themed alert this morning that’s now making waves across the internet.

What’s Happening: The Rise of the “FIFA Visa” Scam

  • Scammers on TikTok and Instagram are promoting fake immigration packages, claiming Canada is offering a special “FIFA visa” that allows fans to work and stay long-term.
  • Videos in Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi show doctored screenshots of IRCC’s website, Canadian passports, and green check marks—creating a false sense of legitimacy.
  • One viral video offered a visa package for ₹150,000 INR (approx. $2,220 CAD) including embassy fees, match tickets, biometrics, and “consultancy” services.

IRCC’s Official Statement: No Special Visa Exists

  • IRCC clarified that there is no World Cup-specific visa. Visitors must apply through standard channels: either a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) depending on their nationality.
  • Match tickets do not influence visa approval, and emotional appeals or letters about football passion won’t override financial or travel history requirements.
  • Only FIFA-invited personnel (e.g., referees, contractors) are exempt from work permits under a temporary policy—but this does not apply to fans or general visitors.

Who’s Being Targeted?

  • Vulnerable applicants, especially from Punjab and other regions with high emigration interest, are being misled.
  • Unlicensed agents are exploiting the hype, promising guaranteed entry and fast-track approvals.
  • Calgary-based consultant Mandeep Lidher warns that submitting false documents could trigger a five-year ban from Canada.

IRCC’s Viral Red Card Post

This morning, IRCC posted a striking image featuring a red card held high, symbolizing a warning to would-be scammers. The caption reads:

“Certain videos circulating on social media are sharing misleading information about traveling to Canada during the FIFA World Cup 26™…”

The post is gaining traction across platforms, reinforcing Canada’s stance against immigration fraud and misinformation.
